12.9 Miles. In the Rain. With a Baby.

And I feel awesome.

We had a rainy morning in Dallas County, heading east of Selma. And the road ahead was long. We march in a lane on a divided highway, with excellent law enforcement support. We have city and state and NPS officials in various roles, coordinating everything from the ambulance and first response care for us to blocking off roads so that we can have the right of way to safely cross.

It’s quite a contrast to what the foot soldiers in 1965 experienced. Your mind can be all wrapped up in the history, and the you look up and an Alabama State Trooper has cleared a path for you, is keeping you safe.

Another fantastic photo series from the Montgomery Advertiser will give you an overview of the day. Make sure to click through the photos to see some marchers you know and love.
